Roy Keane says United players will ‘expect more’ from teammate who ‘frustrated’ him vs Wigan

Manchester United booked their spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup last night after cruising to a 2-0 victory over Wigan Athletic.

Of course, supporters won’t be getting too carried away after the win, as the opposition ranked two divisions lower than the Red Devils. However, the competition is United’s only prospect of silverware this season, having already bowed out of the Carabao Cup and Europe, as well as fallen to eighth place in the Premier League.

Like countless other matches this season, United’s frontline were unable to etch their names on the scoresheet. Rasmus Hojlund, in particular, looked off his game after watching several clear-cut chances go astray. The goals were provided by Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes, the latter of whom converted his contribution from the penalty spot.

Keane analyses Rashford weakness

Speaking in the ITV studio alongside Ian Wright and Roberto Martinez, Roy Keane assessed Marcus Rashford’s showing at the DW Stadium and in his opinion, it left a lot to be desired.

“Man United are playing against a League One side here,” Keane began. “Marcus [Rashford] must be walking off the pitch [thinking], ‘For all these opportunities, I should be scoring, or certainly providing more assists for some of the players’. It may be a bit harsh, but that’s because we expect a lot from him. He should be more explosive, it’s just these little details.”

“He’s got into the habit as well of stopping the ball dead, and that makes it easier to defend. There were parts of his game tonight that frustrated me, and hopefully, they’ll have frustrated his teammates, who will now go, ‘Listen, we expect more from you,’” the former club captain explained.
