Michail Antonio believes Manchester United should be near the top of Kalvin Phillips’ shortlist of potential suitors.
The outcast Manchester City midfielder looks set to finally pull the curtains on an underwhelming Etihad career.
Since departing boyhood club Leeds United, whom he captained, on a £45 million move in 2022, Phillips endured injury woes from the offset. When fit, he has never ranked high in Pep Guardiola’s estimations or pecking order, which has only been further proven in his significantly limited game time.
Last term, the England international made just two Premier League starts and zero in the Champions League. He accumulated a total of 593 minutes of playing time across the entire season. Now, in the 2023/2024 campaign, Phillips has been granted a mere two starts in all competitions and spent 318 minutes on the pitch.
Alas, the 28-year-old is now on course to be put out of his misery by negotiating a City exit.
United were frequently linked with Phillips during his time at Leeds, with reports once suggesting that the club were even ‘working on a deal’ to sign him, however, upon joining City, he claimed that the fierce Roses rivalry was too prominent for him to join the Old Trafford outfit.

Antonio links City flop with United
Irons frontman Antonio disagrees with such sentiment though, and reckons Phillips should consider United – despite the club showing no concrete interest this time around – if he can’t seal an agreement with Juventus.
Speaking on the Footballer’s Football podcast, he was asked: “Newcastle, Manchester United and Juventus have all been linked with Kalvin Phillips, where do you think he should move?”
“For me, I’m going to Juventus, after Juventus, it would be Man United and then it would be the Magpies. That’s from me, from a personal standpoint I always wanted to play in Italy, Inter Milan always had a place in my heart, and the city, I love it, I love Milan,” Antonio responded.
