Manchester United’s most formidable challenge so far this season is set to take place later this afternoon.

The Red Devils, led by Dutch manager Erik ten Hag, are preparing to take on champions and bitter-rivals Manchester City.

Set to make the short journey across town to play at the Citizens’ home ground – the Etihad, United will know that they will have to be at their very best if they’re to come away with any kind of result.

Looking to continue where his team left off prior to the recent two-week break, ten Hag will likely name his strongest available 11 as the former Ajax boss looks to close in fourth spot following Brighton and Hove Albion’s 3-3 draw against Liverpool on Saturday.

Interestingly, although the blue half of Manchester will undoubtedly kick Sunday’s mouth-watering encounter off as clear favourites, ten Hag has been handed a boost after three senior opposition players have been ruled out.

According to journalist Stephen Tudor, defensive trio Rodri, John Stones and summer signing Kalvin Phillips are all unavailable, prompting suggestions that Ilkay Gundogan will be forced to play in an unnatural deeper role.

Sunday’s blockbuster derby is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m (UK time) and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
