Manchester United linked with shock move for unwanted Man City midfielder

Manchester United have supposedly made Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips a prioritise for the summer transfer window.

That’s according to The Sun following speculation over the 28-year-old England international’s future.

City manager Pep Guardiola recently revealed he was “so sorry” for the lack of game time Phillips has received since his £42 million transfer from Leeds in 2022. At the time, we were led to believe he turned us down because he hated United.

Somehow all seems forgiven.

Erik ten Hag is reportedly a big fan of Phillips, who rarely plays, and feels that he would be a perfect addition for his midfield at United.

A source told the newspaper: “United are watching the situation with Phillips very carefully.

“He is likely to go out on loan in January, but he will then be looking for a permanent switch in the summer, and Ten Hag wants to be right at the front of the queue.

“He is a fan of the way Phillips plays, and thinks his style is perfectly suited to United and to the philosophy he is trying to instil in the group.”

Furthermore, it is believed United’s new investors are keen to bring in a core of English players and Phillips is being considered.

United are said to be watching the situation closely, with it being felt that the former Leeds midfielder could go out on loan in January until the end of the season.

That said, I don’t think City will be loaning many players to us in the near future. We’ve also been linked with Fulham defensive midfielder and Portugal international Joao Palhinha, so there are better options available in the market if we’re willing to look hard enough.

Phillips has only made 8 appearances for City this season and I’m sure Guardiola would prefer send him on loan elsewhere.
