Manchester United are not planning to spend big in the January transfer market. Business is expected to be minimal – with a player or two arriving on loan.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s deal to acquire 25% of Manchester United is going through the process of being ratified by the Premier League, so Ineos are not expected to have any impact on the January transfer window.
The Glazer family are not going to give Erik ten Hag money to spend – just like last January when Wout Weghorst (loan) replaced Cristiano Ronaldo.
United have struggled for goals again this season, with Rasmus Hojlund and Anthony Martial managing one goal each in the Premier League thus far.
According to The Athletic, United are considering recruiting a striker on loan in January as they do not have the funds to make a permanent signing. The Reds reportedly have their eyes on two strikers playing in the Bundesliga.
Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is one option as he is struggling for regular football following the arrival of Harry Kane, while the Reds have reportedly made enquiries about getting Timo Werner in from RB Leipzig.
The Athletic adds: “Should United get any money from a sale, they might decide to invest in Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who has scored 17 goals in 14 Bundesliga games this season. Guirassy reportedly has a release clause of £15.2million, which is cheap, but about £15.2million more than United have room for in terms of FFP.”
Neither striker would fill me with much confidence and it shows that we’re still penny pinching under the Glazers.
United will hope that Hojlund can return from illness for next Monday’s FA Cup third round clash against Wigan.

We need to get the new transfer people in place before we sell any players apart from Sancho and Martial because i don’t trust Murtough after some of the duds signed under him and decent youth players sold
It would be absolutely pointless to sign a striker if they don’t recruite quality wingers and midfielders to provide service to the top man
The problem with UNITED strikers begins with the two outfield players in names of garnacho and rashford so even if we sign a new striker yet the wingers don’t deliver balls to the main man nothing will change
