Sir Jim Ratcliffe writes letter to Manchester United fans

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has written a letter to Manchester United fans with his 25% takeover almost complete.

The deal was confirmed on Christmas Eve, but now awaits Premier League ratification which could take 6-8 weeks.

Boyhood fan Ratcliffe, 71, has paid the Glazer family £1.03 billion for his stake in the club.

While Ratcliffe waits for Premier League chiefs to ratify his deal to own 25% of Manchester United, the British billionaire has written to the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust, vowing to do all he can to restore glory to Old Trafford.

His statement read: “I wanted to write to you at this time given the critical role of the fans to the future of the Manchester United as we recognise our responsibility as custodians of the club on your behalf.

“I believe we can bring sporting success on the pitch to complement the undoubted commercial success the club has enjoyed.

“It will require time and patience alongside rigour and the highest level of professional management.

“You are ambitious for Man Utd and so are we.

“There are no guarantees in sport, and change can inevitably take time but we are in it for the long-term and together we want to help take Man Utd back to where it belongs, at the very top of English European and world football.

“I take that responsibility very seriously.

“Please note that, as with any deal, it is subject to the usual regulatory sign-off process and therefore we do not expect to speak publicly about club matters until after the deal has completed.”

Under the agreement with the Glazer family, INEOS will acquire 25% of the Class B shares owned by the Glazers and tender an offer for up to 25% of the Class B shares at USD33 each in a deal which will not add to the club’s existing debt.

Furthermore, Ratcliffe will invest £158m and a further £79m by the end of 2024 to help upgrade the club’s infrastructure.
