Erik ten Hag eyes 25 y/o England stalwart as first-choice centre-back target

Manchester United are looking to bolster their backline for the second half of the campaign.

As per the Express, Erik ten Hag has deemed AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori as his first-choice target and could try to push for a bid to be made as early as the January window.

Tomori, 25, has become a stalwart at the back for the Serie A outfit since making the move from Chelsea – where he worked his way through the ranks at Cobham – in 2021. Prior to his permanent exit, he endured loan spells with Brighton and Hove Albion, Hull City and Derby County before taking his talents over to Italy’s top division.

United’s interest in defenders comes after a debilitating injury crisis has plagued Old Trafford this term. Currently, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are sidelined, Victor Lindelof has missed the side’s recent games through illness and Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane have suffered with injuries at various points throughout the campaign.
