Sir Jim Ratcliffe favours former Chelsea manager if Erik ten Hag is sacked

Sir Jim Ratcliffe could look to replace Erik ten Hag with Graham Potter when he takes control of football operations at Manchester United, according to reports.

That would be one of the most unpopular decisions if it were to happen… let me get that in quickly!

The INEOS billionaire is thought to have met with the former Chelsea head coach, as per The Sun, and rates the ex-Brighton coach highly after previously considering him to take charge of his Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice.

Potter, 48, has not managed since being sacked by Chelsea in April after less than a season in charge. The report adds that he turned down the chance to succeed Alex Neil as manager of Championship side Stoke this week.

Although I am fully aware that people are discussing the manager’s position, I would be worried if Ratcliffe has identified that as one of the biggest problems he faces at Old Trafford. If anything, Ten Hag has shown that he should be backed by the next manager – and that a section of the dressing room needs to be cleared out.

We can reassess the situation if it turns into a total nightmare – but talk of firing managers before his 25% buyout is ratified doesn’t bode well with me.

Meanwhile, rumours in Germany suggest Ten Hag could be hired by Borussia Dortmund in the new year but they seem pretty far off the mark at this stage.

United go to Anfield this weekend on the back of two defeats. The Reds crashed out of Europe on Tuesday night after losing 1-0 to Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag will hope that the trip to Anfield is not the final straw.

Jose Mourinho was sacked by United following a 3-1 loss to Jurgen Klopp’s side in December 2018.

  1. Please not Graham Potter.
He has lesser experience than any of the recent
    managers, who have failed!

  2. Please! Not from worse to worst. That pot failed to cook the blues and what has he done to coach Manchester United team, maybe they are related with J.Ratclif when there’s a lot of unemployed coaches around. What about Zinedine Zidane, Roberto De Zebri. Better to even go for Michael Carrick or Unai Emery.
