Manchester United add Stuttgart goalscorer to January wishlist

Manchester United are being linked with a January move for Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy as Erik ten Hag looks to add more competition to his attacking department.

The Guinea striker has been in outstanding form after initially joining Stuttgart on loan from Ligue 1 side Rennes for the 2022-23 season. Stuttgart struggled for large parts of the season, but Guirassy contributed 14 goals in 28 appearances so they decided to offer him a three-year deal.

Guirassy, 27, has reached new levels this season. The Guinean has scored 15 goals in 10 Bundesliga appearances since the 2023/24 campaign kicked off.

This has reportedly made United think about signing a new forward to take some of the workload from Rasmus Hojlund after the Dane joined from Atalanta in August. The only other option we have in the squad is Anthony Martial, who has two goals in 17 appearances this season.

Despite Guirassy’s incredible record this season, the striker could be available for a surprisingly low fee when the transfer window reopens, with reports suggesting the goal-hungry forward is available for €17.5 million.

In turn, The Guardian claim United have made contact with Guirassy’s agents to sound out a potential move.

The report also states: “Ten Hag is also believed to be keen on the right-sided centre-back and two midfielders in January so any move for Guirassy may depend on finding a buyer for Anthony Martial, who scored against Everton in the 3-0 win on Sunday.”

United could face competition from Newcastle for Guirassy’s signature, with the player recently stating that he would love to play in the Premier League. In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, he refused to rule out staying at Stuttgart until the end of the season.

“I cannot hide these things – everyone knows the Premier League is one of the most competitive leagues in the world,” Guirassy said.

“But at this time I don’t close any doors. There are some very big teams in Europe and it’s not focused only on the Premier League. At Stuttgart we have such a good team and everything is possible in football. If we can continue to be humble like we have been so far then we have a good chance.”
