Manchester United have outlined four positions they’ll look to strengthen in January as the club aim to oversee a successful second half of the campaign.

Amid Sofyan Amrabat’s lacklustre start to life at Old Trafford, a defensive midfielder may be sought in the winter, according to The Guardian. The Moroccan was benched on Sunday at Goodison Park, with 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo being preferred in the Premier League clash and given how he performed, the situation could repeat itself in tomorrow’s trip to Galatasaray.

Elsewhere in the squad, a right-sided centre-back, a striker and a No.8 are being targeted following United’s troubling start to the term – their worst in 61 years. Mason Mount is overseeing his second spell on the sidelines after his setback in August, while Raphael Varane’s future has been subject to speculation after he fell in the pecking order behind Jonny Evans.

Jim Ratcliffe to oversee transfer matters

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s imminent 25 per cent buy-in is expected to improve transfer dealings, however, the board must act in compliance with the financial fair play restrictions, meaning any new arrivals, especially as many as four, may be dependent on outgoings.
