United expected to reignite pursuit for experienced French international who’s set to become a free agent

A fresh report from CalcioMercato suggests that Manchester United could reignite their pursuit of Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot at the end of the season, much to fans’ dismay.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Rabiot since Erik ten Hag took the reins, as the manager has frequently looked to bolster his midfield with experienced players; Casemiro and Christian Eriksen joined in his first window and played pivotal roles across the 2022/2023 campaign.

Last summer and amidst strong interest from United, the French international opted to commit his short-term future to Juventus by signing a one-year extension, keeping him at the Allianz until June 2024.

Given that he’s undecided on where his future lies next, Rabiot looks all set to become a free agent when the current term draws to a close – and that’s when United could step in.

United must look elsewhere

However, one key factor that ended United’s previous approach was the 28-year-old’s costly wage demands; he, along with his agent mother, were demanding £162, 692 per week for him to make the move. Whilst it wouldn’t put him in the bracket of the club’s highest earners, he’s not getting any younger and we’ve likely seen the best of what he can do in the black and white of The Old Lady, and it certainly isn’t anything to write home about.
