Boost for Manchester United as star trains after injury scare

Manchester United have had a number of injury problems this season. The last thing Erik ten Hag needed is to be without his first choice goalkeeper Andre Onana.

That looked like a possibility ahead of this weekend’s trip to Goodison Park where the Reds face Everton, who were docked 10 points by the Premier League in the past week.

Andre Onana was forced off in a game for Cameroon with an injury and the goalkeeper returned to Manchester this week for further assessment. However, as we revealed at the time, it looks like the Cameroonian will be fine for the trip to Goodison Park.

Moreover, the Daily Mail claim Onana has been able to train for the last two days despite picking up a ‘groin injury’ on international duty and is expected to be positioned between the sticks for United versus Everton.

There is also a suggestion that Rasmus Hojlund is a doubt after tweaking his right hamstring in the win over Luton. That injury was the reason he pulled out of the Denmark squad for the November international.

Onana came off immediately after feeling pain during a World Cup qualifier against Mauritius before flying back to Manchester on Sunday, missing his country’s draw with Libya.

The report also goes into detail about how Shaw returned to training for the first time in three months. Furthermore, Lisandro Martinez watched Wednesday’s first-team session from the sidelines as he continues his comeback from a fractured foot that required a second operation. The Argentine trained individually.

Ten Hag is expected to give an update on the fitness of his players at Friday’s press conference.
