Scott McTominay brands Georgia players ‘babies’ after Euro 2024 qualifier

Scott McTominay scored yet again for Scotland last night but he branded the Georgia players “babies” following his side’s 2-2 draw in Tbilisi.

Although Scotland have already booked their place at Euro 2024, Georgia haven’t, so there was a competitive edge to the game. The referee even booked three players on each side.

McTominay collided with Giorgi Kochorashvili at one point after the Georgia midfielder received a yellow card for trying to pull the Manchester United midfielder from the ground.

However, the highlight of the game for McTominay was scoring his seventh goal of the qualifying campaign to make it 1-1 in the first-half.

Georgia proceeded with time-wasting before the end when Lawrence Shankland scored a stoppage-time equaliser. The game finished 2-2.

Speaking to Viaplay Sports (as quoted by Reuters) after the match, McTominay said: “Every game at this level is big and obviously they’ve got some really good players, but the way they were acting on the pitch I thought was a disgrace in terms of provoking the referee and it’s not the way it should go, but anyway that’s football.

“They should do something about people pretending they’re injured when they’re not.

“It’s a difficult one to call, but rolling around crying like babies is not football and we just wanted to get on with the game and play and do our best to try and win, whereas on the other side they were provoking the referee a lot.”

McTominay has grown this season by becoming one of Scotland’s best players. Furthermore, he has found himself back in the United line-up under Erik ten Hag. Hopefully he can carry this form into the busy festive period.
