Manchester United are one of three European sides monitoring Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana, as per Fabrice Hawkins.
The Red Devils could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain and/or Juventus if they were to make a formal approach for the player, with the two sides also keen on acquiring his signature.
Fofana, 24, is out of contract with the Ligue 1 outfit in 2025 and they may be resigned to losing him if it looks as though he wants to take his talents elsewhere. Given that Monaco will be reluctant to see him leave as a free agent, they could be forced into accepting a bid next year to ensure they cash in on the midfielder.
Didier Deschamps has awarded Fofana with 13 senior France caps; six of which came during last year’s World Cup as the two-time winners finished runners-up behind Argentina.
United’s transfer situation
Erik ten Hag is set on bolstering his squad in January while still confining to United’s financial restrictions. Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s imminent buy-in, which will see him claim a 25 per cent stake, could help significantly with incomings during the winter.
United’s form has taken a hit this season amid a debilitating injury crisis, so strengthening key positions may prove pivotal if they want to secure a Champions League spot in 2024.
