Joel Glazer and Richard Arnold issue statements ahead of CEO transition at Manchester United

Manchester United confirmed today that Richard Arnold would be leaving his role as Chief Executive Officer at the club.

Patrick Stewart, who already holds a position as General Counsel, will succeed Arnold during the transitional period for the remainder of the year and until United acquire a permanent suitor.

It comes amid Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s expected buy-in over the coming weeks, in which he will obtain a 25 per cent stake in the Red Devils. From then, he’ll take immediate control over sporting matters and transfers, which has filled the Old Trafford faithful with some optimism over how the future could look with the Glazer family taking a backseat.

Ratcliffe has reportedly chosen Jean-Claude Blanc, known for his previous work with Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, as the long-term CEO for his new ownership. As well as that, a new sporting director is expected to be hired, with Paul Mitchell tipped to fill the void.

“I would like to thank Richard for his outstanding service to Manchester United over the past 16 years, and wish him all the best for his future endeavours. We are fortunate to be able to call on the deep knowledge and experience of Patrick Stewart to provide interim stability and continuity as we embark on a search for a new permanent CEO.”

Arnold said: “It has been an incredible privilege to serve this great football club for the past 16 years. Through highs and lows, the constant has been the dedication of our employees and fans. I would like to thank all of them for their loyalty and commitment, and wish everyone associated with the club the very best for the future.”
