Teden Mengi feels he has a point to prove at Old Trafford on Saturday

Luton Town defender Teden Mengi, who left Manchester United during the summer, has spoken about facing his former club this weekend at Old Trafford.

The former academy star believes the Premier League newcomers can pile further pressure on Erik ten Hag this weekend as he prepares to return to Old Trafford for the first time.

Luton held Liverpool to a draw last weekend and they will be aiming for a similar result this weekend. Mengi was a standout performer against the Scousers, too, so he will travel to Old Trafford on Saturday with fire in his belly.

“It was a tough game as we expected against a very good Liverpool side, but I felt we more than held our own against them,” Mengi told the Daily Mail.

“We really should have won after being so close to victory, but in all honesty we would have taken a draw before the start of the game.

“It’s good for the confidence that we can cope at this level and we want to kick on from here.

“The performance will give us confidence 100% going into Manchester United this weekend that we can get a result there and we will have no fear.

“They have not been in great form of late and hopefully we can go there and cause them problems and get a result.”

The 21-year-old knows it will be a special occasion when he returns to Old Trafford. Although he only manage to make two senior appearances for the club, Mengi came through the academy and played in various age groups.

Injuries hampered Mengi’s chances to make it at United.

Mengi added: “It will be a special occasion and I want to prove to them and show everyone what I am capable of and that I can play at this level.

“I have always backed my ability to perform the way I can, but unfortunately injuries have not been on my side.

“I am really enjoying it at Luton and I am thankful they have given me the opportunity to play in the Premier League.”
