Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Jonny Evans will be unavailable for Manchester United’s clash with Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.
The Northern Ireland international has been a preferred option to partner the in-form Harry Maguire as of late and was named in the starting 11 for the Reds’ Champions League contest midweek against Copenhagen, which ultimately ended in a 4-3 win for the Danes.
Evans, however, wasn’t on the pitch to see out the tumultuous ending, as he had to be withdrawn in the 15th minute due to an injury and was subsequently replaced by Raphael Varane.
Regarding Evans’ fitness, Ten Hag told the media this afternoon in his pre-match press conference (via Manchester Evening News): “We don’t have in this moment a full assessment done. We don’t have the full details so far. For tomorrow, he’s out.”
United’s current injury woes
This means that the former Leicester City captain joins fellow defenders Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia on the sidelines, while Amad Diallo and Casemiro are also ruled out for the time being.
Either Victor Lindelof or Varane will likely be deployed alongside Maguire tomorrow.
