Alejandro Garnacho won’t be getting many Christmas presents from Copenhagen this year.
The Danish champions were not pleased with the Manchester United scarlet after the first match between the two sides at Old Trafford, but those feelings worsened on Wednesday night when the Reds visited Copenhagen.
Garnacho riled up the Copenhagen players at Old Trafford after scuffing the penalty spot before Jordan Larsson was denied by Andre Onana in stoppage-time. This meant United secured three points and it’s the only win we’ve managed in the Champions League after playing four games.
However, Garnacho has been accused of doing the same before Copenhagen’s penalty on Wednesday night.
The spot kick was scored by Diogo Goncalves, although Denis Vavro claims Garnacho tried to ruin the penalty spot yet again. This time it didn’t quite work out as Goncalves sent Onana to the wrong side.
Speaking to Bold.dk, Vavro said: “I saw that he tried to do something about the penalty kick, but Kevin Diks stood in front and blocked.
“It is the second time. And then on our track? To me he is a clown.
“He has the mentality of a child when he tries something like this again. In an away game.
“One thing is at home in the 97th minute, but here in the first half. I don’t understand him trying to do that.”
While Copenhagen were clearly rattled by Garnacho, it didn’t show on the pitch because they got the result they wanted by beating United.
Some of these lads in Copenhagen may need reminding that Garnacho is just 19 and maybe maturity isn’t a strong point right now. However, I wouldn’t ask him to change his obsession with ruining penalty spots before the opposition step up to take one.
It might be poor sportsmanship but these are signs he’s willing to do anything to win. There’s nothing wrong with that in my book – granted you can get away with it.
United need to beat Galatasaray in Istanbul before getting a result at home to Bayern Munich. It won’t be easy.
