Manchester United plan shock David de Gea U-turn

David de Gea back at Manchester United? Stranger things have happened.

According to The Sun, Manchester United are planning a shock U-turn by offering David de Gea a short-term deal.

It is believed United are worried about being short of goalkeepers when Cameroon No1 Andre Onana goes to the African Cup of Nations in the new year.

Onana signed for United in the summer after deciding to pack in his international career. However, the Cameroonian performed a U-turn and is expected to feature in the AFCON, which runs from January 13 to February 11.

This means Onana could miss up to eight matches, so United are trying to cover themselves… but De Gea? I thought we had moved on from the Spaniard.

De Gea, 32, spent 12 years at Old Trafford but left in the summer when his contract expired. Since then he has not played a competitive fixture and interest in him has been minimal.

This news potentially comes as a slap in the face for Altay Bayindir, who joined United from Fenerbahce in the summer, but also Tom Heaton as third choice.

What is the point in having these keepers if Erik ten Hag doesn’t fancy them at all?

De Gea was back in Manchester recently to watch the women’s team take on PSG in the Champions League. He also took time to meet with some of his former United teammates for a coffee.

  1. I’d welcome Dave The Save back ( if he wants to come ) as I feel he was treated rather shabbily at the end. Onana first choice and they’ll both make mistakes, but if there’s a goalkeeper who doesn’t, he’s the one we should be going after!
But the point about our 2 goalies is valid – bit of a head-scratcher, tbh. Any chance the ‘newspaper’ quoted is wrong?
