Manchester United are looking to get three points on the board when FC Copenhagen visit Old Trafford on Tuesday night.
The UEFA Champions League resumes this week after another boring international period. Bayern Munich are likely to run away with Group A, although Manchester United can pretty much forget about the knockout phase if they fail to beat Copenhagen home and away.
Copenhagen face similar fate if they lose at Old Trafford.
United tend to make life hard for themselves – year after year – but after losing our first two games in the Champions League, qualification for the last 16 has become an uphill task for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Following the death of Sir Bobby Charlton on Saturday, United will be mourning the loss of a true icon. The club has announced plans to commemorate Charlton before kick-off.
Our opponents tomorrow night gave away a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw with Galatasaray, although it is worth noting that they gave Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich a run for their money.
The Danish side shouldn’t be underestimated – but United’s players would be naive to underestimate any opposition right now.
Casemiro is the only fresh injury in the squad, however, the Brazilian would have missed the Copenhagen match through suspension anyway.
Meanwhile, Mason Mount is expected to return to the line-up after being benched for the 2-1 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.
The atmosphere will be special at Old Trafford tomorrow night as we expect Charlton to recieve a fitting send off.
United’s inability to hold a lead might cause problems, but we really need to get at Copenhagen and take advantage of any domination periods.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-0 Copenhagen

This year, we’re not ready for the knockout stages. Simple as that. Who could argue otherwise? Take a minor miracle to get there now, and, should that happen, we gonna meet Real Madrid / Barcelona / Bayern Munich at some stage. Or even Newcastle or the Manchester Artificials. I’d prefer we bow out now rather than get smashed later on. Let’s try and get our League campaign up and running. Won the last 2, but manner of victory didn’t fool anyone.
we’re not ready for the knockout stages but galatasary/copenhagen are?
The fact that you fear eddie Howe’s newcastle says a lot. expecting to get smashed by newcastle – this sums up ETH, just how truly crap he is.
he is on borrowed time – fortunately he will be gone soon.
Don’t think I said Copenhagen are ready; no idea about Galatasary’s chances, just think they and BM are going to qualify from our group. Not just the Barcodes, I worry about us playing any attack-minded team atm. I’m not as anxious as you are to see the back of ETH – still hoping he can turn things round, tho’ agree I can’t see him being there next season if we’re still cr*p. Gotta point the finger at the players on this as well: one presumes they look pretty good in training, and some of the match-day stuff is fine. But once they concede, their heads go and annoyingly seem to concede shortly after scoring.
And if they go 2 down, that’s more-or-less it – Forest at home being the exception. Psychologist needed, perhaps🤷🏼
sorry david, i just meant not qualifying from this group is not acceptable considering the resources and players of united in comparison to the other two.
as for ETH, i just see what emery, de zerbi, howe have done in similar time, even the spurs manager has got them firing.
my biggest criticism is he is supposed to be a possession/pressing manager – his captain is bruno – its enough for me to prove he is a bit of a fraud, and just not up to scratch – there are several better managers in the league.
oh well come on united! better had beat cph!
It’s an odd situation, I agree. Mourinho, OGS, and now ETH:
a decent season where one thinks we’ve finally got someone worthy of following SAF, then a lousy season full of fans asking wtf. Can’t agree re Bruno: his been our MOTM so many times, we’re lucky to have him.
We both want what’s best for United, of course, and it may prove that the Premier is harder then Ten Hag anticipated – apart from Ajax ( at their best ) PSV, and Feyenoord, Dutch league football isn’t all that. But I’m happy to stick with ETH for a while; I’ve supported United since 1964 and was old enough to travel to OT in their relegation year (Yay!)
So I’ve seen a lot of dross over the years along with the good times and have learned not to be too impatient. Apart from the obvious example of Sir Alex’s early years, we’ve had a few players who took a little while to settle before producing the goods. Time will tell!!
thanks david for the convo, we disagree ofc but as you said time will tell!
city this weekend. yikes!
I’ve just gone for 2.5 goals or more with my Bookie. I’ve been known to bet on the opposition to provide consolation if (when?) we lose, but can’t bear to do that with that plastic club. Nor the Micky’s, for that matter.
Number of goals should be safe enough tho’ I won’t be crying if we win 1-0. Or 2-0, he said, dreaming happily
ha good hedging. 2.5 goals+ seems a good shout tbh!
I’m not confiedent and doubt any fans are really.
