Erik ten Hag provides fitness updates on four players for Sheffield United trip

Erik ten Hag has provided his team news for Saturday’s trip to Bramall Lane to face Sheffield United.

Manchester United’s injury woes this season have been second to none, with 17 players each missing at least one game through fitness concerns or illness. The setbacks have been detrimental to the side’s form thus far, so Ten Hag will be hoping to see a significant change in performance as more members of the squad return to the fold.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Casemiro would miss the upcoming clash due to a minor issue he picked up on international duty. He has stayed in his native Brazil to recover.

Reds return from injury

On a positive note, Raphael Varane, Sergio Reguilon and Sofyan Amrabat have returned to team training and will be fit to feature this Saturday evening. The latter had missed Morocco’s fixtures due to an unspecified issue but Ten Hag has assured the midfielder will be at his disposal to face the Blades.

The Dutchman said in today’s pre-match press conference (via ManUtd.com) “Rapha Varane is back, so I think, especially in the backline, I’m very happy with Rapha back and Sergio back. That’s very good news, of course.

“It’s disappointing that Casemiro picked up an injury but it’s not too bad. I’m sure and confident he will be back for the next games, so very short notice. The good thing is also that Sofyan Amrabat is available.”

Paul Heckingbottom is navigating numerous injury concerns himself, with Chris Basham, John Egan and Tom Davies all ruled out.

Kick-off is at 8pm in South Yorkshire.
