Casemiro ruled out of Manchester United’s clash at Sheffield United

Casemiro has been ruled out of Manchester United’s clash with Sheffield United due to injury.

The Reds travel to Bramall Lane on Saturday night for the 8pm kick-off, but Erik ten Hag will need to select a midfield without Casemiro, who picked up an injury while on international duty with Brazil.

Casemiro, 31, will stay in Brazil to recover from a ‘small issue’ until next week when he is expected to return to Carrington. That much has been confirmed by club media.

United confirmed on Thursday afternoon via ManUtd.com: “Casemiro was absent [from training], having remained in Brazil, on the club’s advice, to recover as swiftly as possible from a small issue picked up while playing for his country.

“He will be unavailable for Saturday’s game with the Blades but is expected back at Carrington early next week to resume training, although he is suspended for the UEFA Champions League encounter with FC Copenhagen at Old Trafford, after being sent off in the defeat to Galatasaray.”

Perhaps the only issue I have with this is Casemiro picked up the injury against Venezuela last Friday and then played 90 minutes versus Uruguay on Tuesday night. We thought that made for an injury boost as far as United were concerned, but that obviously wasn’t the case.

On another note, Casemiro has not performed well this season and he was took off at half-time last time out against Brentford before United forced a late comeback win. It would be stupid to suggest United are stronger without the Brazil captain – we’re not – but I do feel we should be able to get at Sheffield United this weekend without a defensive midfielder.

Hopefully, Sofyan Amrabat is fit because we may have issues trying to protect the defensive otherwise and Ten Hag doesn’t need anymore injuries.
