Manchester United get Casemiro boost after injury scare

Casemiro started in Brazil’s 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in the early hours of this morning.

While this gives Manchester United an injury boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United, some fans will argue that after suffering a scare in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela, Casemiro should have been rested.

But no, Brazil’s interim coach Fernando Diniz opted to throw in the 30-year-old from the very start and he played the full 90 minutes.

On top of that, United winger Facundo Pellistri managed 88′ minutes on the pitch for Uruguay.

United fans feared the worst for Casemiro after he came off against Venezuela with a knock. He missed training over the weekend and was a doubt ahead of the game against Uruguay as a result.

It’s good news that Casemiro was able to play, but it doesn’t fill me with confidence that it sounds like he was rushed back. The last thing Erik ten Hag needs is additional injuries.

There was always going to be question marks over whether Casemiro will start against Sheffield United. His recent form has been below par and Ten Hag could call upon Sofyan Amrabat as an alternative to protect his defence.
