Manchester United join Chelsea in pursuit of highly-rated Leipzig star

Manchester United are monitoring highly-rated RB Leipzig forward Lois Openda, as per Football Insider.

The Red Devils have joined Premier League rivals Chelsea in pursuit of the 23-year-old, who signed on a reported £37.1 million deal from Lens in the summer after Leipzig beat numerous clubs to his signature.

Openda has already got off to a prolific start to life in Germany, scoring five goals and contributing one assist in 11 appearances so far this term.

Leipzig make January transfer stance clear

His numbers have caught the attention of other top sides across Europe, so Leipzig have made their stance clear ahead of the January transfer window – that Openda is not for sale under any circumstances. The Belgian signed a five-year deal upon his arrival, so the Bundesliga outfit will be keen to keep him for as long as possible.

Marco Rose also oversaw the departures of key players such as Josko Gvardiol, Dominik Szoboszlai and Christopher Nkunku in recent months, and won’t want to see Openda added to the list of outgoings.
