Donny van de Beek is not expected to move until January at the earliest.
The Premier League transfer window shut before the previous round of Premier League fixtures, but Van de Beek had been attracting interest from Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
Van de Beek has yet to make a competitive start for United since January and it doesn’t look like Erik ten Hag fancies him like he used to at Ajax.
With the Turkish transfer window shutting on Friday, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano claims it is likely the 26-year-old would remain at United for the first half of the season, having not been enthused by the prospect of a switch to Turkey.
Speaking to The United Stand, Romano explained: “There is a very good chance Donny will stay until January because he doesn’t want to make a move just to be away for six or seven months and then return. This is not his style.
“Also if he wanted to go to Turkey he had the possibility to go, but he wanted to play Champions League football. He had that possibility but now it’s no longer the case as the Champions League [squad] list has already closed in Turkey.
“So I think at the moment this Donny story with Turkey is not that concrete. There was a possibility a couple of weeks ago but the player was not so keen on that kind of move, so I expect him to stay.”
The Netherlands international has been an underwhelming signing for the Reds since his £39 million transfer from Ajax back in 2020. Van de Beek has made just 60 first-team appearances which have amounted to two goals and as many assists.
Romano added that Van de Beek had been close to a move to La Liga outfit Real Sociedad until United decided to pull out of a deal in an interesting turn of events.
“Let me say that with Real Sociedad the deal was really close at one point, and it collapsed because of Manchester United. That’s the reality because Donny agreed on everything with Real Sociedad.
“He wanted to go there. It was probably the best opportunity for the player to change city, country, league, to experience something different and to play Champions League football.
“He wanted to go there by Man Utd didn’t agree with Real Sociedad on the terms of the deal [with regards to] the loan fee and salary coverage.”
It sounds like La Real wanted Van de Beek but couldn’t afford him, even on a loan.
