Mason Greenwood poised for season-long loan to Turkey after significant lack of interest from clubs

Mason Greenwood is poised to complete a season-long loan move to Turkish Super League outfit Besiktas, as per the I Newspaper.

It comes a week on from Manchester United’s decision to dismiss the forward, following backlash surrounding their controversial plans to reintegrate him into the first-team squad.

Supporters, politicians and domestic abuse charities all voiced their concerns on social media over Greenwood representing the Premier League giants again. He had charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew their participation from the investigation.

Now, he remains on the lookout for a new suitor. Top European clubs, as well as those in England, are reluctant to sign Greenwood after seeing the response that United received when their return strategy was leaked so consequently, there haven’t been many offers in his inbox.

Besiktas mull over Greenwood signing

Besiktas are open to taking Greenwood on a six-month loan deal, in which they will monitor the public’s reaction as well as their fans’. They will also need the green light from their women’s team before any deal is agreed to avoid any upset.

The attacker remains on full pay and contracted to United until 2025, but admitted himself that it would be for the best for him to continue his career away from Old Trafford.
