Manchester United add Italian wing-back to list of transfer targets

Manchester United are in the market for a new left-back and one of the latest names linked with a move is AS Roma’s Leonardo Spinazzola.

The two senior left-back options — Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia — are ruled out with injuries, and Erik ten Hag is looking to sign another option to ensure he has more cover than Diogo Dalot and Alvaro Fernandez.

Dalot started on Saturday against Nottingham Forest and struggled. This weekend the Portugal international is likely to start against Arsenal, with Bukayo Saka expected to get the better of him.

However, Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that United enquired about the possibility of signing Spinazzola from Roma this summer.

The Italy international impressed at the Euros in 2021, but he was out of action for a lengthy period after suffering a torn ACL. Spinazzola over recovered from that injury last season.

Spinazzola made 39 appearances under Jose Mourinho last season, scoring two goals and providing five assists.

Furthermore, The Sun shows UEFA data detailing how Spinazzola was the joint-fastest player at Euro 2021 along with Hungary defender Loic Nero.

The pair were clocked at a powerful 21 miles per hour during the tournament, edging them past talented players like Kingsley Coman, Daniel James, Kyle Walker and Marcus Rashford.

United have already signed two players from the Serie A this summer: Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund. Let us know in the comments section if you think there will be more.
