Former Manchester United star confirms club’s new signing before official announcement

Former Manchester United midfielder Fred has confirmed the club’s latest signing before the media team.

Fred departed Old Trafford for Fenerbache earlier in August after spending five years in Manchester.

The Brazilian was adamant about acquiring more game time elsewhere, having fallen down the pecking order to the likes of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, so took his talents and creativity to the Turkish Super League.

Shortly after he made the switch, Fenerbache goalkeeper Altay Bayindir agreed a deal with United. Erik ten Hag and the board had identified the 25-year-old as a suitable option to provide coverage to Andre Onana and Tom Heaton – and Fred made sure to wish Bayindir well in his new venture.

The former Red told beIN Sports: “I wished him good luck. He’s going to a great team. I made some suggestions for where he could live. I said it’s raining a lot. Altay will be very happy at Manchester United.”

United are yet to announce the transfer to supporters, although all reports have pointed towards it being a done deal in recent days. Bayindir’s move is expected to cost £4.3 million, while Carrington graduate Dean Henderson will complete a £20m move to Crystal Palace (£15m up-front and £5m in add-ons).
