Manchester United make enquiry to Ryan Bertrand’s entourage over possible transfer

Manchester United are looking to sign a left-back on a short-term basis and free agent Ryan Bertrand has emerged as a shock option.

Bertrand, 34, is without a club after his contract expired with Leicester City this summer.

The left-back is currently training with Chelsea’s loan development squad in an attempt to regain fitness and find himself a new club.

While it won’t be popular with the majority of our readers, Stretty News understands Bertrand is one of the left-backs being considered by Manchester United following initial discussions with the player’s entourage over a possible move.

If Bertrand is the answer, it proves that United are in a desperate situation just three weeks into the new season.

Moreover, if a move materialises, it would see Bertrand follow Jonny Evans to Old Trafford. Both players left the King Power Stadium this summer after their contracts expired.

The panic comes with Erik ten Hag being left without a senior left-back, with Shaw ruled out for four to six weeks and Tyrell Malacia absent due to an unspecified injury.

It means Alvaro Fernandez is the only fit left-back available. However, it remains to be seen if he will be given his debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The Spanish left-back has been linked with a loan move to La Liga side Granada.

The most likely solution at left-back this weekend is Diogo Dalot, although Lisandro Martinez is another option that has been shoehorned into the role previously.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Or just basic Glazernomics?
