Manchester United have been dealt fresh concerns over Luke Shaw’s injury.

It was confirmed on Thursday evening by The Athletic that the England international had sustained a muscular injury and would face an extended spell on the sidelines until he recovers.

Now, Manchester Evening News has reported that Shaw could be set for a two-month layoff, with United learning that his problem is considerably worse than they initially feared.

The club are actively scouring the market for a suitable left-back replacement, as Tyrell Malacia is also out of action with a long-term problem. Brandon Williams left on a season-long loan move to Ipswich Town this week, leaving just 20-year-old Alvaro Fernandez as the only player available. He is yet to make his first-team debut.

Stretty News understands that veteran defender Ryan Bertrand has been scouted as an option to fill in for United over the coming months, while Erik ten Hag may also opt to play Diogo Dalot out of position and utilise him on the left flank.
