Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq consider swoop for Mason Greenwood

Mason Greenwood is reportedly subject of a £10 million move to Saudi Arabia to play for Steven Gerrard.

Manchester United revealed on Monday they had come to a “collaborative decision” for Greenwood to relaunch his playing career elsewhere.

According to The Sun, Al-Ettifaq are considering whether to offer a £10m-a-year deal for the the United forward.

It is understood that other clubs in Saudi Arabia are considering a move for the 21-year-old after United announced he will never play for the club again.

The report also recites reports about interest from across Europe, including Jose Mourinho’s Roma, with the former United manager still considered an admirer of Greenwood.

Al-Ettifaq have already signed Jordan Henderson from Liverpool this summer, after offering the England international a whopping contract worth £700,000-per-week (via Metro).

Meanwhile, The Times suggests Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir have called United to express their interest in Greenwood.

Greenwood has not played for United since being arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of attempted rape, assault and coercive control. These charges were dropped in February by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Former United right-back Gary Neville has condemned the club for its “horrible” handling of the Greenwood situation but he is in favour of moving the striker on.
