Arsenal could pursue a deal for Manchester United-linked defender Benjamin Pavard, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils had been targeting the Frenchman over the past fortnight and reportedly even saw an opening bid rejected by Bayern Munich.
However, their interest has now been put on ice due to Harry Maguire’s situation; Pavard was only sought as a replacement for Maguire if he left for West Ham but that deal has now collapsed.
Arsenal turn to Pavard after Timber setback
Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta was dealt a significant injury blow in his side’s season opener last Saturday as new signing Jurrien Timber was replaced at half-time with an injury during his club debut. It has since been confirmed that the £34 million addition has sustained a serious ACL injury to his right knee and will face a lengthy spell on the sidelines while he recovers to full fitness.
The Gunners are now actively scouring the market for his replacement before the window closes, and have seemingly identified Pavard as a suitable option. The France international wants to leave Bayern this summer and will not extend his contract with the club, meaning he would leave for free in 2024.
