Manchester United are off the mark for the 2023/2024 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It was a substandard performance from the Red Devils in their return to action, with Wolves undoubtedly offering more threatening attacks and a relentless display.

They also managed 23 shots on goal – the most that United have faced at Old Trafford from an away team since 2005.

Still, United’s one goal was enough to secure all three points under the lights and it came thanks to an unlikely ‘scorer, Raphael Varane. He headed home in the 76th minute to break the tight deadlock.

Andre Onana and Mason Mount made their official debuts after being named in the starting 11, while new recruit Rasmus Hojlund watched on from the stands as he recovers from a back injury.
