Romano: Manchester United target has told his club he wants to leave, will push for move

Benjamin Pavard has told Bayern Munich that he wants to leave the club amid interest from Manchester United, as per Fabrizio Romano on the Debrief Podcast.

The Red Devils reportedly had their opening bid for Pavard rejected last week, according to reports in Germany, with Bayern hoping to recuperate a fee of around €30 million for the defender.

United may be unwilling to meet their price tag though, due to the fact that the Frenchman has just one-year remaining on his current deal and is unwilling to sign a new contract. Talks remain ongoing between the two European giants.

Erik ten Hag is looking to build on a promising first term at Old Trafford and this can only be done by strengthening his squad, which he has done already by overseeing the arrivals of Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund.

Pavard’s potential arrival may also be dependent on Harry Maguire’s exit after the Reds agreed a £30m deal with West Ham United. The Englishman is yet to agree personal terms with the London outfit.

Romano on Pavard

Romano shared his understanding on the matter this afternoon, saying: “Manchester United’s favoured candidate is Benjamin Pavard. He’s already told Bayern Munich that he wants to go and that he won’t sign a new contract.”

“Pavard sees this as a big opportunity and is pushing to make it happen,” he continued. “But Bayern have told him they have no intention to sell. I think he’s the favoured candidate, but in case it doesn’t happen there is Jean-Clair Todibo – United’s scouts have been keeping an eye on him.”
