Manchester United’s opening offer for Benjamin Pavard has been rebutted by Bayern Munich, as per Florian Plettenberg.
Plettenberg did not disclose the amount of the offer but given that the Frenchman has just one-year remaining on his contract, it’s likely that United will be starting the bidding as low as possible.
Pavard, 27, has made it clear to the Bundesliga giants that he will not be signing a new deal and is pushing to leave this summer rather than as a free agent in 2024.
He featured last night in the DFL Supercup final, also coinciding with former United target Harry Kane’s debut, but sustained a 3-0 loss to RB Leipzig.
Ten Hag outlines Pavard as Maguire’s successor
The defender can play at both right-back and centre-back, though Erik ten Hag would utilise him more frequently as the latter and is being sought in case Harry Maguire exits in the coming days.
Throughout his time in Munich, Pavard has lifted four league titles, three DFL Supercups, a DFB Pokal, a UEFA Supercup, a Club World Cup and the Champions League – which came as part of a treble-winning season in the 2019/2020 campaign.
