Real Sociedad could abandon move to sign Manchester United midfielder

Manchester United are yet to open the floodgates as we enter the final month of this summer’s transfer window but the expectation is that a number of first-team players will depart the club before the turn of the month.

Anthony Elanga, Alex Telles and Zidane Iqbal are the only players to have left for a fee but United could be forced to cash in on other players to fund moves for fresh faces.

Donny van de Beek has endured three difficult seasons at Old Trafford and he is unlikely to feature regularly this season, meaning an exit is increasingly likely.

The Netherlands international is currently taking part in United’s pre-season tour but last week, it was reported that La Liga giants Real Sociedad were interested in the former Ajax star.

Now, La Real’s interest has been reportedly been thrown into doubt. That’s according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, who say that Imanol Alguacil’s men have doubts over Van de Beek’s physical condition.

As per the report, Real Sociedad are without enough information to go all out for a transfer and Van de Beek’s salary demands are said to be too high.

The Basque club were looking to bring the 26-year-old in on loan with an option to buy that is now hanging in the balance.

Van de Beek has not made a competitive appearance for the Reds since January this year after he sustained a serious knee injury but he is now ready to kick on and resurrect his career. He recently scored the winner in a pre-season friendly win over Olympique Lyonnais.
