Two Manchester United Women players are heading home from the World Cup after Canada crashed out of the group stages.

There was heartbreak for Manchester United’s Canadian duo Jayde Riviere and Adrianna Leon after suffering a 4-0 defeat at the hands of hosts Australia.

Riviere and Leon both featured in Canada’s starting line-up, but they couldn’t help their country get the point it required to stay in Australia because the hosts swashed them away.

Attention will now turn to England’s game against China tomorrow. United have three players in contention to play for the Lionesses including Ella Toone, Mary Earps and Katie Zelem. They need just a point to secure their on top of the group.

England will face Nigeria in the next round if they top their group. A runners-up spot would see them drawn against Australia.

On a more positive note, Vilde Boe Risa’s Norway qualified for the knockout stages and will face Japan in the last-16.
