Mason Greenwood has not appeared for Manchester United in 18 months and is still suspended by the club.

Manchester United are conducting an internal investigation into Mason Greenwood’s case after the CPS dropped all criminal charges against the young forward.

Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault, before he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

In October 2022, Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Those charges were dropped in February.

However, until United made their own decision on Greenwood, his career sits idle.

Speaking to reporters in New Jersey, Ten Hag said the decision is out of his hands but he has made representations on what he would like to see.

“It’s a club decision and of course, I shared my opinions but it’s a club decision and we all have to accept that,” Ten Hag said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

When asked if he would like to keep Greenwood, Ten Hag added: “I can’t say so much about it but I shared my opinion about it, so let’s see what’s going to happen.”

I think it’s clear, as a manager, Ten Hag will want Greenwood in the team but this won’t be a popular decision with lots of fans.

  1. Greenwood according to the law is not guilty of any crime and therefore cannot be judged by a kangaroo court.

  2. If there is insufficient evidence for a court of law to secure a conviction then there is also insufficient evidence for everybody else. He is clearly innocent, remember, the crown also heard the tapes.

  3. It’s not Greenwood’s guilt or innocence that are the issue – it’s the PR fallout that Man Utd would potentially face. All sporting clubs at this level wil have active PR management, and possibly a PR management company on contract. I expect Man Utd has exactly that and is worried at the prospect of losing fans or even other players if Greenwood plays again. If Man Utd can come up with a PR strategy for Greenwood that satisfies the board, and can convince itself that other players will accept the situation, then bring Greenwood back. If not, then it’s too risky.

  4. No one is righteous under the sun. The weight of offences done undisclosed are heavy and worse than that for Greenwood. Let the boy play again
