Predicted Manchester United line-up vs Lyon: Fernandez, Mainoo, Hugill start

Manchester United will take on Lyon in their second pre-season friendly of the summer.

A youthful side saw off Leeds to get their preparations underway and, despite the return of his senior players to training, Erik ten Hag is expected to give more minutes to those players today.

Here’s how the boss could set up in Edinburgh.

Tom Heaton will get the nod between the posts. It remains to be seen if Andre Onana will get a visa in time to join his new teammates for the US tour, but for now it makes sense to start games with Heaton.

The full-back positions will be filled by Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Alvaro Fernandez at left back. Erik ten Hag won’t mess around at centre-back either, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez likely to continue their remarkable partnership.

I also have a feeling that the midfield will be the same that started against Leeds in Oslo. Academy duo Kobbie Mainoo and Hannibal Mejbri will be joined by new signing Mason Mount.

Joe Hugill was the only recognised centre-forward that travelled to Oslo last week, and he found the back of the net. I fancy the youngster to start against Lyon and he will be joined in attack by Amad Diallo and Jadon Sancho.

Manchester United predicted XI vs Lyon: Heaton; AWB, Martinez, Varane, Fernandez; Mainoo, Hannibal, Mount; Amad, Hugill, Sancho.
