Manchester United team news for Lyon: Two defenders ruled out of pre-season tour with injuries

Manchester United’s team news for Wednesday’s pre-season fixture against Lyon.

The Red Devils are back in action exactly one week on from their opening pre-season clash with Leeds United, which ended 2-0 in the 20-time champions’ favour.

Now, Erik ten Hag has assessed his options for tomorrow’s outing against the Ligue 1 club and has ruled out two defenders due to injuries; first-team regular Tyrell Malacia and youngster Rhys Bennett. The duo will consequently be omitted from the pre-season tour of the United States, that’s due to kick off on Saturday in New Jersey.

Aside from the injuries, the manager has been granted several players that have returned from international duty, however, they’re unlikely to feature in the forthcoming friendly and will instead be utilised against Arsenal at the weekend.

Supporters were surprised to see a former Red back at Carrington today in the form of Jonny Evans, with the club since confirming that he has signed a short-term deal to keep his fitness up ahead of a potential transfer. He will feature in the squad’s tour of the US.

Returning Reds

Fred is set to return to the fold after missing last week’s game in Norway, so will be in contention to get some minutes in his legs ahead of a potential move away.

Antony and Donny van de Beek have recovered from their respective issues and have made the trip to Scotland. Kick-off is at 2pm BST at the BT Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
