Manchester United re-sign Jonny Evans on short-term deal

Manchester United have completed the shock short-term re-signing of Jonny Evans.

The 35-year-old is back at United after eight years and he is now set to be included in the squad for our upcoming pre-season friendly against Lyon at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, as per ManUtd.com.

Evans will then fly out to the US with the club’s academy on pre-season tour. United will be without two defenders — Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett — for the trips due to injury, so it makes sense to add an experienced professional like Evans to the mix.

The former Northern Ireland international’s contract with Leicester City expired earlier this month and he had been training with United’s U21s to maintain his fitness. That would suggest Evans impressed the coaches at Carrington in recent weeks.

However, Evans had been linked with a move to Everton.

It remains to be seen if Evans will be start of the squad for the upcoming season, but I can see the logic in bringing him back.

We could do with more quality options at the back and I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry Maguire moved on before the end of the transfer window.

Evans knows he won’t be playing at United every week, and at 35, I think he would be happy having a bit-part role back at Old Trafford where he’s already adored by fans.

Welcome back Jonny!
