Liverpool consider move for Manchester United midfield target

Erik ten Hag is continuing to overhaul Manchester United’s midfield, having added Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Mason Mount to that department over the last 12 months.

As United continue to prepare for the new season, there are other areas in more pressing need of strengthening but Ten Hag is believed to still be on the lookout for midfield reinforcements.

Furthermore, there are question marks over the futures of both Scott McTominay and Fred. A departure could mean that United’s hand is forced and they must enter the market once more.

Having already landed the prime midfield target for the summer, it looks like Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat could be next in line if United decide to make a move.

Amrabat is one of Serie A’s outstanding midfielders and he recently helped Morocco reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, becoming the first African nation to do so.

It’s safe to say that Amrabat’s reputation has skyrocketed since then and United’s interest is no surprise. There are, however, reasons to be concerned.

Now, it is being reported by The Athletic that Liverpool are considering a move for Amrabat if Fabinho departs the Anfield club, with the Brazilian failing to report back to training for pre-season.

The former Monaco star is believed to be in talks to make a move to the Saudi Pro League and Amrabat has been earmarked as a potential candidate to replace him.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Amrabat had a three-club shortlist of clubs he would be keen on joining if he left Fiorentina this summer, with United featuring alongside Bayern Munich and Barcelona on that list.

Amrabat has just one year remaining on his contract at Fiorentina, which does make a move reasonable for all parties. The 26-year-old could also decide to run his contract down and make a decision next year.
