Manchester United youngster made wait for pre-season call up after missing Oslo trip

Manchester United are Oslo bound for their initial pre-season friendly against Leeds – but there was no place in the 26-man squad for young striker Charlie McNeill.

Erik ten Hag is without a handful of senior players due to some of the internationals having yet to return to Carrington for training.

Some of those players include Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford.

However, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane were back in training last week and they are set to feature against Leeds later this evening.

There are several young players in the squad looking to prove themselves – but McNeill will have to wait for his opportunity to impress Ten Hag.

The 19-year-old is expected to feature at some point during the pre-season tour, after spending some time away at Newport County last term.

McNeill made his first team debut for United in September 2022, when he got some minutes against Real Sociedad in the Europa League.

The youngster raised eyebrows this morning when he took to Instagram to post a story of him training on his own.

Meanwhile, some of the other young players will be looking to take their opportunity in Oslo. Some starlets to watch out for are Alvaro Fernandez, Rhys Bennett, Dan Gore, Hannibal Mejbri, Kobbie Mainoo and Shola Shoretire.
