Dean Henderson is expected to leave Manchester United this summer.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that Nottingham Forest would be prioritising the signing of Henderson after having him on loan for the 2022/2023 campaign.
He saw his season end prematurely after sustaining a thigh injury in the closing stages of Forest’s 2-0 win over Leicester City on January 14, which marked his last appearance for the club that term.
Steve Cooper and the Trees’ hierarchy will now begin navigating a deal that sees the 26-year-old move to the City Ground on a permanent basis. United value the Englishman at £25 million – a price that Forest are unwilling to meet as it stands.
Henderson’s time at United nearing its end
Fans have often questioned whether Henderson would be granted another chance in a United shirt. He is a graduate of Carrington Academy and the times he has played, he’s impressed viewers.
If there was a chance for him to have a clear path into the No.1 spot, it’d be now; David de Gea’s contract expires in nine days and Erik ten Hag has decided that a new starting goalkeeper is necessary this summer, after a season of faltering form from the Spaniard.
However, the board are actively scouring the market rather than turning to the options they already have at Old Trafford.
An exit for Henderson is seemingly the best resolution for all parties, as according to Manchester Evening News, he has “‘p****d off’ Ten Hag and there is next to no indication he is under consideration for a promotion to No.1 after an uneasy couple of years with his parent club.”
