Manchester United to bid for former player’s twin sons from Manchester City’s academy

Manchester United are looking to sign club legend Darren Fletcher’s twin sons, according to The Athletic.

Jack and Tyler Fletcher, 16, currently play for neighbourhood rivals Manchester City, despite their father’s ties to the 20-time league champions.

Currently, Fletcher is the technical director at Old Trafford but in his playing career, he spent 20 years at the club and worked his way through the youth ranks to play an influential midfield role in the senior team during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.

After retiring in 2017 at Stoke City, he returned to M16 to kickstart his coaching career and has progressed from working with the under-16s to the first team.

The Scotsman could now welcome his two teenagers to Carrington as they mull over making the switch between the two rival clubs.

The Blues have made offers to keep the young prospects but it is believed the pair are favouring a move to the red side of town.

David Ornstein’s report adds: “Regarded among the most promising Under-16 talents in the UK, Jack and Tyler have been part of an era of age-group dominance for City and the hierarchy made efforts to keep them. They remain on schoolboy registrations and will be eligible to agree professional deals upon turning 17 in March 2024.

“The brothers have been encouraged to follow the paths that suit them, as indicated in February when they played against one another for different countries at Under-16 level — Jack picking England and Tyler choosing Scotland.”
