Manchester United flying academy players to US for Wrexham match

Manchester United plan to fly a separate squad of players to the US for the pre-season friendly fixture against Wrexham next month.

This comes as no surprise because the match was already being billed as one United would use to play academy players.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United are planning to fly out a number of academy players who are not yet first-team ready.

In turn, those youngsters would stay in San Diego to train for a week. While that is a fantastic opportunity for these young players, it will come as a blow to fans in the United States who want to see a star-studded line-up.

It’s not like they weren’t already warned though.

Erik ten Hag could use the match to play fringe players if he believes they need it to gain match sharpness.

United face Real Madrid the following day, so none of the main players will be risked against Wrexham.
