Manchester United join Tottenham and Newcastle in race for wantaway England star

Manchester United are among three clubs interested in Leicester City’s James Maddison.

The midfielder is almost certainly on his way out of the King Power this summer, as the Foxes look to raise funds by offloading their most valuable asset.

Given that his contract expires at the end of next season, now is their last chance to cash in on the sought-after star.

According to ESPN, the Red Devils have joined Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in pursuit of Maddison, who is currently on international duty with England.

Maddison’s best efforts couldn’t keep Foxes up

Across the 2022/2023 campaign, Maddison was a bright spark in a dismal storm for Leicester. He tallied 10 goals and nine assists in the Premier League but his contributions were not enough to keep his club in the top flight, as an 18th-placed finish secured their drop to the Championship.

Now, the 26-year-old has a decision to make regarding his next destination. Out of the trio of Premier League sides interested, two boast Champions League spots next term, but game time may vary at each of the teams.

The Foxes hierarchy were keen to acquire a £50 million fee for Maddison but their relegation may force them to accept a significantly lower bid.
