It had been suggested that Manchester United were eyeing a move for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Shortly after that report did the rounds, along with Brentford’s apparent valuation of £40 million, Sky Sports claimed United and Tottenham Hotspur were reluctant to meet those demands.
Manchester United are being linked with a number of goalkeepers this summer, with Erik ten Hag keen to add competition at the very least for David de Gea. Raya had a brilliant season for Brentford and he is ahead of our No 1 in the pecking order for Spain.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have opened talks with Raya regarding a summer move and the two parties are on the verge of reaching an agreement on personal terms.

A move to Tottenham would be a small step up in his career, but it would be nothing like joining a club like United.
The Spaniard is in the final year of his contract, which may be the reason why United are reluctant to pay out £40m for his signature.
Ten Hag needs to find a goalkeeper, like Raya, who can help the team build from the back. That is something we suffer with when De Gea plays.
Another keeper linked with a move to United is FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, who starts between the sticks for Portugal too.
It remains to be seen if United will try to reach out to Raya.
