Manchester United leading the race to sign Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos since the 2022 World Cup.

The 21-year-old replaced Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portugal line-up for the knockout stages of the tournament and he has contributed an impressive 26 goals and 12 assists for his club this season.

Ramos’ hat-trick at the World Cup against Switzerland pushed him to prominence and he could get a big move away from Benfica this summer.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Manchester United are leading the race for Ramos’ signature.

It is understood that Ramos is also attracting interest from other clubs in England.

United’s priority this summer will be signing a centre-forward. Erik ten Hag has not been able to rely on Anthony Martial due to the Frenchman’s struggle with injuries, while Wout Weghorst has managed just 2 goals since joining the club on loan from Burnley in January.

That said, Ramos is not the only striker linked with a summer move to Old Trafford. Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen appear to be high on Ten Hag’s transfer wishlist.

A lot will depend on whether the Glazers sell the club before the transfer window opens.
