Erik ten Hag target tipped for move to Liverpool by Wesley Sneijder

Jurrien Timber has been tipped for a move to Liverpool by Wesley Sneijder and Andy van der Meije.

The Ajax star was heavily linked with Manchester United last summer, with Erik ten Hag keen to bring him to Old Trafford from Amsterdam in his first transfer window as the Red Devils’ boss.

However, a deal failed to materialise between the two clubs as Timber vowed to stay and extend his contract until 2025 at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Ajax did not want to oversee the departures of both Timber and Lisandro Martinez, who signed for United last July.

Now, it looks as though the Dutchman is set for a summer exit and has openly admitted a transfer may be on the cards.

It’s currently unknown whether Ten Hag will opt to reignite the pursuit of his former protegee, but with United seemingly eyeing a new centre-back, it’s certainly a possibility.

Ajax’s utterly dismal campaign may force them to again sanction the outgoings of several of their sought-after players in a bid to balance the books.

Van der Meije and Sneijder discussed the prospect of Timber’s exit, saying (via Sport Witness): “There may be eight or nine players that Ajax will have to say goodbye to. But you also have to fill that up with quality, if you want to re-join very quickly.

“I think they will do that in a different way with the youth,” Van der Meijde added.

“[Edson] Álvarez will leave for forty million, Kudus for thirty million and Timber will probably go to Liverpool. They also pay crazy money. Then you can start building again.”
